Betty Parrish

Betty Jean Parrish, 89, of Rachel, WV, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2014 at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born December 21, 1924 in Mannington, WV, daughter of the late Fred Parrish and Ella McInturff Parrish.

She is survived by her three sons, David Parrish and wife Cyndi of Morgantown, WV, Kelvin Parrish of Fairmont, WV, and Gilmer Lee Parrish and wife Libby of Stonewood, WV; 8 grandchildren, Joseph Parrish, Jonathon Parrish, Tommy Parrish, David Anthony Parrish, Sherry Parrish, Jerry Parrish, Kevin Mike and Marianne Mike; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Lyle Parrish, her second husband, Jim Knight, and two sons, Thomas Parrish and Kevin Parrish.

Betty was a member of the Downs Methodist Church in Rachel, and formerly attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mannington. She had worked on the election board in Marion County, as well as a secretary for the Fire Department in Worthington. She was a member of the Senior Center in Fairmont and Mannington, and also the Downs Homemaker Club in Rachel. Betty enjoyed flower gardening and was affectionately known as the neighborhood “mom”.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. Mannington on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Coon officiating. Burial will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel. At the request of the family, the casket will remain closed during visitation and funeral services. We are so sorry to hear of Betty's passing, our families friendship goes back generations, my grandmother Ruth Quickle and Betty were great friends, she asked me to write and give her love, she is not able to make it to the funeral home. Our prayers and love at this time.

Prayers for the family. Betty was a kind soul she was known for taken in strays mostly cats and kittens she loved every one of them. He wold help anyone that needed it she will be sadly missed.
