Carl Lee Stewart, 78, of Fairmont, formerly of Mannington, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born September 10, 1935 at Farmington, WV, son of the late Delmar and Helen Hayes Stewart.

He is survived by a daughter, Rachelle; his companion, Agnes Morgan of Fairmont; two sisters, Patty Booth and her companion, Roger Barnett, Joyce Jolliffe and her husband, David; a brother, James Stewart and his wife, Janice, all of Mannington; several nieces and nephews and a special aunt, Dorothy Napier of Deerfield, MI.

Carl is also survived by his companion’s children: Brenda Basinger, NC, Esther Glenning, Fairmont, William Smith, NC., Tammy Slater, Mannington.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jane Stewart, who died March 5, 1997; a brother, Donald Stewart, and a brother-in-law, Bernard Booth. Carl was a United States Navy Veteran, retiring after twenty years of service. He was a member of VFW Post #629 in Fairmont, had served as Post Commander when he was in good health. He enjoyed traveling.

The family would like to thank the ICU nurses at Fairmont General Hospital for the compassionate care given to Carl while he was a patient.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton at 1:00 p.m. Full Military Services will be provided by the Marion County Veterans Council and the United States Navy at the graveside.
