On the eve of her 94th birthday, Elsie Rae Fancher of Mannington, WV passed peacefully at Fairmont Healthcare and Rehab Center. She was born May 10, 1928 in Ayden, NC, a daughter of the late George Aaron Benson and Addie Arlene Hagan Benson.

She is survived by her two children, Linda (Charles) Toothman Chefren of Fairmont, and Retired Navy Captain Douglas (Denise) Toothman of Morgantown; three step-children, Leigh Ann Fancher and partner Rod Moore of Mill Fall, John (Connie) Fancher of Oklahoma, and Kelly Kittle; her grandchildren, Tim (Lindsey) Collins of Traverse City, Michigan, Molly Collins and partner Bob Riley of Wheeling, Addie Zinone and Greg Zinone of Newport Beach, CA, Danielle Toothman of Cleburne, TX, Geoffrey Toothman of Cleveland, OH, Lindsey Toothman and David Salazar of Albuquerque, NM, Emilee Adams of El Paso, TX; her step-grandchildren, Logan Chefren of North Hollywood, CA, Shanda Martin of Perryopolis, PA, Cienna Chefren of Pittsburg, PA, Damon Sturgeon, Richard Fancher, Charlie Myers, Scott Myers and Nancy Myers; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elsie was the last surviving member of her siblings and was preceded in death by her husband John Fancher.

Elsie was a Baptist by Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church in Mannington. She was also a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary Mannington Moose since 1978 where she held various offices receiving several awards with National Recognition. She was also a life member of the VFW Woman’s Auxiliary, past member of the Mannington Elks Lodge, and the Mountaineer Doll Club in Morgantown in Association with the United Federation of Doll Clubs.

Elsie supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Morgantown and was well-known in Marion Co. generally, and Mannington specifically, for being the “Doll Lady”. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her! She was best known as “Nannie” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, happily making them handmade “Nannie Noodles” while also making them laugh! She was previously employed at North American Phillips-Westinghouse having retired in 1989, and also worked for the FBI upon graduating High School at the end of World War II as a clerk/typist.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St, in Mannington, WV on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 1-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in the funeral home beginning at 11:00am with Reverend James Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Fairmont.
