Mary Fisher

Mary Fisher

Our dear beloved mother, Mary Hazel Fisher, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, November 15, 2017 after a long fought battle with Alzheimer’s at her daughter Melissa and son-in-law Chad’s home, which she resided with since 2013.

Mom never knew a stranger. She helped everyone that was in need. Her home was always open to everyone. She was kind, loving, nurturing, compassionate and generous to a fault. Everyone called her Mom or Mam Maw. She loved everyone, but most of her love went toward her family. Her nieces and nephews will remember her as loving them with all her heart. No one was ever turned away from her and no one ever left her home hungry or in need. She would gladly give her last penny to anyone who needed it.

Mary was born on 8-Mile Ridge, Reader (Wetzel Co.), WV on May 1, 1945, the 4th child of James K and Flossie F (Coen) Eastham. She was married to Charles Daniel “Danny” Fisher for 48 years before his passing away in 2013.

Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Florine Kay (Roy E) Harper of Arnettsville, Charles Daniel “Chuck” Jr. (Glenda) Fisher of Buckhannon, and Melissa Joy (Chad) Gifford of Whetstone Rd., Mannington. Her grandchildren are Michael Gifford, Rachel Fisher, Emily Fisher, Joey Harper, Mary Danielle Fisher, and Jamie Harper, and several special “adoptive” grandkids that she called her own.

Mary was the 4th child of nine and is survived by her 8 siblings, Harry (Shirley) Eastham of 8-Mile Ridge, Eathel Nolan of Reader, Peggy Martin of Pine Grove, Jimmy Eastham of 8-Mile Ridge, Judy Morgan of Mannington, Thelma (Ray) Ice of Reader, Donna (Duane) Barker of Pine Grove, and Greg (Mindy) Eastham of 8-Mile Ridge; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Joan Fisher of Fairmont; and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Mary was employed with the Marion County Board of Education for 26 years, with 24 of those years as a cook and cafeteria manager at North Marion High School before retiring in 2003.

Our dear Mother was preceded in death by our beloved father Danny in 2013; her parents; 3 brothers-in-law, Bert David Nolan, Terry Martin, and Douglas “Fred” Morgan; one nephew, Terry Glenn Martin; and one niece, Kristy Fisher Woods. Also, very dear and close friends, Jim and Norma Paugh of Grafton, and Vilery “Ellen” Talkington of Fairmont; and one close cousin, Linda Willard of Mannington.

Mary was a member of the 8-Mile Ridge Church of Christ, and later in life attended the Metz Church of God of Prophecy. She graduated in 1963 from Valley High School in Pine Grove, WV.

We would like to thank WV Caring and their staff, Becky Stiners, RN, Becca Hiner, LPN, Holly Wilson, HHA, Amanda Sigley, Social Worker, and Janet Flanagin, Chaplain, and Pastor Scott Owens of Wayside Southern Baptist Church.

Family and friends may attend a Viewing and Celebration of Mom’s life at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 2-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastors Dennis and Nieta Howard officiating. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV where our father lies. Pallbearers will be Chuck Fisher, Michael Gifford, Joey Harper, Jamie Harper, Justin McNay, B.J.
