Melvin Sickles, Jr., 89,  of  Flaggy Meadow Rd, Mannington WV, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017  at his residence. He was born July 29, 1927 at Wyatt, WV,  son of the late Oscar Melvin Sickles and  Myrtle Eddy Sickles Parks.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Kinch Sickles of Bridgeport WV; 2 daughters, Elaine (George) Bland and Diane Sickles, both of Mannington; 2 sons, Paul (Barb) Sickles of Hedgesville, WV and Dale (Sandy) Sickles of Morgantown WV; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Jr) Halpenny of Wyatt, WV; several nieces and nephews  and former wife and good friend, Dee Dye of Mannington.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters; a granddaughter, Melissa Sickles; a grandson, Dustin Akers.

He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a Golden Glove Boxer while in the armed forces. He was a member of the Charity Baptist Church.  He was an avid “junk” collector and  donated the proceeds of aluminum cans he collected to his Church. He loved kids and passing out candy to them, and also enjoyed trapping.         

He retired from the coal mines having worked at Williams Mine, Four States Mine and mines in Gilmer County. He was loved very much by all and he will truly be missed by all.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, Ryan, Meredith, Emily, and Randy for their great compassionate care of their father and for the wonderful help of Terry Morgan and everything she did to help.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St, Mannington on Thursday, June 22, from 2-8pm.  Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Friday at 11am. with Pastor Jerry Reel officiating.  Interment will be at Wyatt Cemetery.
