Alice Marie Shuman, age 83 of Mannington, WV passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at her residence at Genesis Healthcare Assisted Living in Fairmont. She was born April 29, 1943 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late James Mayo and Alice Jane Fletcher Mayo.
She is survived by her three children, Gina Prahl and fiance Charles Freeland of McDonald, PA, Jeff Hayes and his wife Megan of Mannington, and Lana Swearingen and her husband Rusty of Greensboro, PA, 8 grandchildren, Tyler (Destiny) Hayes, Colby (Sierra) Kincell, Dylan Kincell, Shawna Prahl, Shayna Prahl, Bryson Satterfield, Rayden Satterfield, and Laynee Hayes, and 7 great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by her brother James “Sonny” Mayo and his wife Jean Carol and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband James Carl Shuman, her brother William “Bill’ Mayo, her son-in-law Charles “Tim” Prahl, and her great-granddaughter Kennison Hayes.
Alice was the former owner of the Dairi Crème in Mannington and was formerly employed at Edwards Shoe Store in Mannington and Westinghouse. She really enjoyed going camping with her camping friends, shopping, thrifting, and going to yard sales and flea markets. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughters and her granddaughter Laynee to the Amish Country and the beach.
The family extends their gratitude to Wishing Well Genesis Healthcare and WV Caring Hospice for the care of their mother as well as their family support.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, May 9, 2026 beginning at 11:00am with Pastor Doug Cyphers officiating. Interment will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel, WV.
