Austin “Elwood” Bishop, age 75 of Farmington, WV passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at his step-daughter Donna Riggs’ home following a painful battle with cancer. He received special attentive care from Amedisys Hospice with very special nurses and aides that took great care of him.

Elwood was born in Lewis County, West Virginia on June 11, 1946. He loved going fishing. He spent a lot of his younger life working for the Carnival. He was truly a wanderer as he loved to travel!

Elwood was preceded in death by his wife Janice E. Bishop; his mother and father, Inze Hefner and Robert Bishop; a sister, Glenda “Gracie” Bishop; two brothers, Dorace Bishop and Donald Bishop; a step-daughter, Emmajean Wolfe; a step-son, Earnest Longwell; and a son-in-law, Thomas Little.

Elwood is survived by two sisters, Tammy and Mark Curtis of Weston and Betty McKinley of Conoe, TX; a brother, David Bishop of Buchannon, WV; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two aunts, Lee Fallon and Lou Brake, both of Weston; a step-son John and Susan Longwell; two step-daughters, Donna Riggs and Texa and Ronald Boyce; a step-niece, Samantha Lewis; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 2:30-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 beginning at 12:00pm with Pastor Chad Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at the Sancho Cemetery beside his loving wife Janice.

Elwood is my brother in law. He sent me a beautiful vase with house plants in it. I was in the nursing home in New Martinsville WV. He wanted me to come and stay with him. I was married to his brother Donald. I really liked him. Rest in peace dear brother.
