Barbara M. Michael, age 90 of Mannington, WV passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Tygart Center Nursing Home in Fairmont. She was born February 6, 1936 in Mannington, WV, a daughter of the late William H. “Bill” Porter and Dollie M. Hillberry Porter.
Barbara graduated from Mannington High School in 1954, Fairmont State College in 1963 and earned a Master’s Degree from West Virginia University in 1971. She was a Business teacher in Marion County Schools for 30 years having taught at Fairview High School, Mannington High School, North Marion High School and the Marion County Vocational and Technical Center. She was member of the First Baptist Church in Mannington for over 55years and also faithfully attended Llewellyn Baptist Church on Flat Run on Sunday evenings.
Barbara was a past Matron of Augusta Chapter #6 Order of the Eastern Star of Mannington where she also had served as Grand Esther at the Grand Chapter in Charleston. She also enjoyed going line dancing, camping and reading.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey H. Michael and Jay P. Michael, both of Mannington, her granddaughter Jena Marie Michael of Morgantown, her sister-in-law Eva Porter of Moundsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by three brothers, William Ray Porter and his wife Pauline, Robert Harrison Porter and his wife Wilma, and Jack Porter, two sisters, Mary Beth Anderson and her husband Lee, and Sally Anne Gorbey and her husband Bill, her former husband Hoover Michael, and her friend Bill Carpenter.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 2-8:00pm with an Eastern Star Service being held at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, March 29, 2026 beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor Jason Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
