Brenda Kay Efaw, age 58 of Plum Run, WV lost her battle to cancer on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at WVU Medicine JW Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born June 10, 1966 in Norfolk, VA, a daughter of Helen L. Parker Efaw of Plum Run and the late Earl N. Efaw Jr.
In addition to her mother, Brenda is survived by her foster brothers, Richard F. Smallwood of Morgantown, WV and Michael A. Hurley of Manassas, VA. and her biological mother Barbara Stanwyck of VA.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father Earl, as well as her maternal grandparents Arthur Adam Parker and Ida Arthelia Fluharty Parker and her paternal grandparents Charles Earl Efaw Sr and Mona Hays Efaw.
Brenda, MSWLCSW licensed and was also a licensed Social Worker earning various degrees in her field. She worked at WVU Medicine as a Clinical Social Worker in Population Health. She was “Always an advocate for those in need.” Brenda attended the Monongalia Baptist Church on Plum Run. She loved her Great Dane “Daisy.”
Brenda gifted her body to the WV Human Gift Registry in hope of helping to find a cure for Melanoma. She was very environmentally aware and wanted a green burial for her cremains. They will be placed in The Parker Community Cemetery and placed with a tree that will be planted in her memory.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Brenda on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the family home on Plum Run, 1969 Plum Run Road, Mannington, with Pastor Larry Kincell officiating and several guests will speak of happy memories of Brenda’s journey through life. Anyone wishing to speak of fond memories of Brenda may do so at the service. Refreshments will be served following the service.
