Burl Eugene Toothman, age 86 of Plum Run, Mannington, WV passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at the Morgantown Heights Nursing Home. He was born January 13, 1940 in Plum Run, Mannington, WV a son of the late Burl Ensil Toothman and Melba Garnett McCray Toothman.

He is survived by his daughter Tami Toothman Shoup and her husband Larry of Philippi, WV. In addition to his parents, Burl was preceded in death by his wife Linda Diane Thorne Toothman who died May 24, 2026, two sons, Tim Toothman and L.B. Zane Toothman who died in infancy.

Burl graduated from Fairmont State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He went on to work at Westinghouse and then for Consolidated Coal Company at Robinson Run Mine where he worked for over 30 years as a mason and a general inside laborer. He was a member of the UMWA.

Burl was a master basket weaver and also carved wooden decoy ducks and birds but his favorite past time was farming. He was Methodist by faith and he was loved very much by his family!

There will be no funeral home services as cremation has been chosen as the final method of disposition. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington has been placed in care of the final arrangements.

Burl was a long time customer of the barbershop. I looked forward to seeing him each time that he visited. A good decent man that had my full respect. Condolences to the entire family.

IT BROKE MY HEART WHEN I SAW YOU DAD'S OBITUARY. I KNOW HE HAS SUFFERED MUCH WITH THE LOSS OF TIM, YOUR MOTHER AND INFANT SON. YOUR DAD IS THE ONE WHO FIXED ME UP ON THE BLIND DATE WHICH WAS TO BECOME MY WIFE KATHY---65 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. The world needs more good people like Burl and Linda. Burl was
a faithful friend of the Mannington Library and will be missed by

I worked with Burl at Robinson run when Burrell’s last day in mines. He rode with me while I was Fire Bossing he was a very hard worker even when his back was killing him. I am so sorry for your loss. This is a little late me writing, but I just learned of his passing today.
