Charlie, Nancy Ann and Scotty,

My condolences to Judy and her family at the passing of her husband Leonard. I offer one of my memories of Leonard that they may not know. I’m sure that in my 40 year connection to the Plum Run community I met Leonard before 2002. But it wasn’t until then that he and I began our friendship. I specifically remember the date it was 9 May 2002. Rebecca, the kids and I, in March, had recently moved into our new home, previously owned by Kess and Dorothy Fluharty. I was still in service, but on leave because Rebecca had just given birth to our youngest (Shane). I was out front of our house piddling with something and Leonard stopped in his truck. He called out to me, excited and all smiles saying he just heard that Rebecca delivered and he wanted to congratulate us on the good news. I remember this specifically because Leonard was actually the first – of many— in our neighborhood to congratulate us. Here was a guy that I really barely knew who seemed as excited as I was about the birth of our child. It left a lasting impression that 20 years later I still vividly recall. From that time forward, my memories of Leonard ALWAYS include a big smile and greeting anytime he saw me. Leonard would go on to offer me help on the farm, mowing and baling my hay and we shared many conversations. From those I saw that Leonard at his core had a kind soul. He was not just a lover of people but also a lover of animals be they be (handicapped) deer, ducks, cats or his livestock. I hope his family can all find solace in the fact that he’s in God’s hands where we all long to be some day. Absent in the body, present with the Lord. Leonard will return in a perfected body with Jesus Christ someday, and until then he will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. May God Bless.
Leonard was a great individual. He was a long, long time customer at our John Deere dealerships and never was one to come in complaining or screaming, even when his baler broke down in the middle of hay season! He and his dad, Earl, were hard workers. I remember they once came in for a part and it was the middle of December. They were baling hay.
He always had a wonderful smile.
So sorry to learn of the passing of Leonard. A fine man indeed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
My dear childhood friend, Lora,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your Dad. Oh the memories I cherish of spending many days on his farm. May he rest in peace. Thoughts, Prayers for Peace and Love to you, your Mom, Chuck & Diana in the coming days.
Hugs & Love,
