Chester Bissett

Chester Samuel Bissett, 90 of Mannington, went to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, January 7, 2012.  He passed away quietly at home with his family by his side.  He was born April 27, 1921 in Marion County, WV, a son of the late Lloyd Chester and Pleasant Crawford Bissett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillian Gorbey Bissett.  Also by son and daughter-in-law, David and Judy Bissett of Mohan’s Run, son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Linda Bissett of Mohan’s Run and daughter Sharon L. Bissett of Mohan’s Run; grandchildren, David J. Burton, Jr. and Michael Burton of New Jersey, Anna Maria Hughes and husband David of Mohan’s Run and Allen Bissett and wife Joyce of Idamay; great-grandchildren, David Hughes (WV), April Hughes (PA), Brittni Tatterson (WV), Layton Bissett (WV) and Daniel Walsh (FL); great-great-granddaughter, Jaelynn Hughes; a niece, Charlotte Morris of Farmington and her sons, Eugene and Tommy Morris.

In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by three sisters, Lela Powell, Leona Brady and Leola Dennison; a granddaughter, Michelle Tatterson and a nephew. Phillip Morris.

Chester was a member of the Blackshere United Methodist Church.  He served as a local Pastor in the United Methodist Church.  He owned and operated Bissett Body Shop for over 55 years.  He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, participating in the New Guinea, South Philippine and Luzon Campaigns.  He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with the Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Ribbon.  He was an amateur radio operator, call # KA8BPB.  He was a motorcycle and ATV enthusiast.  He was an accomplished guitarist and loved playing and singing.

Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 4-8:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the funeral home with Pastor Randy Vincent officiating.  Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Morgantown.  Full Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Army and the Marion County Veterans Council.
