Clifford L. Powell, 90 of Brink Community, Mannington, WV passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born November 24, 1919 at Mobley, the last of seven children born to the late Jacob Lindsay and Cassie Ellen Myrtle Wyckoff Powell.
He is survived by three children and their spouses, Nancy and Ray Wyckoff of Pine Grove, WV, Keith and Rita Powell of Mannington and Beverly and Mick Hickman of Morgantown; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Radine and Donnie Hubbard, Greg and Genee` Wyckoff, Chad and Cortnie Wyckoff, Jessica and Chuck Bryan, Lindsay Powell, Andrea and Aaron Johnston, and Dathan Hickman; ten great-grandchildren, Vance and Troy Hubbard, Haylea, Madison and Gracie Wyckoff, Anna, Savanah,Olivia, and Dakota Bryan and Katelyn Powell; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Geraldine Powell; two sisters and four brothers, Bonnie Bogard, Grace Powell, Charles Wiiliam "Jake" Powell, John Delbert Powell, Robert Lee Powell and Ralph E. Powell.
Clifford was a graduate of Pine Grove High School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II serving with the 325th Fighter GP Checkertail Squadron. He served in seven campaigns in Africa and Europe. He was a member of the Church of Christ attending the Joe's Run Church of Christ. He was a member of the VFW in Fairmont and a lifetime member of the American Legion in Mannington. Clifford had worked at the Mannington Pottery, Galis and retired from FMC in Fairmont. He enjoyed gardening, especially tomato gardening.
Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 4-9 P.M. and on Monday March 29, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Evangelist Michael P. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
