Dellis “Shorty” Sickles, 82 of Glovers Gap Community, Metz WV passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 11, 1928 in Wyatt, WV, a son of the late Melvin and Myrtle Eddy Sickles.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Charlotte Sickles of Metz; a granddaughter, Kristina Gabor and husband Martin of Farmington; a grandson, Dellis “DL” Sickles and fiancée Wendy Takano of Metz; a great-granddaughter, Emily Rose “Rosie” Gabor of Farmington; 2 brothers, Melvin “Junior” Sickles and wife Nancy of Bingamon and David Sickles and wife Bernice of Fairview; 3 sisters, Gladys Duncan of South Carolina, Betty Halpenny and husband Herbert of Wyatt and Vera Criado and husband Frank of Bingamon; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dellis was preceded in death by his wife Lucinda Clarinda Sickles on February 3, 2010; his son Dellis “Giz” Sickles on July 7, 2010; several brothers and sisters.
Shorty was employed and retired from Consolidated Coal Company JoAnn Mine and as a Road Boss for West Virginia Department of Transportation in Mannington. He enjoyed farming and his animals. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and Korea.
Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 2 - 4:00 p.m. and 6 - 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home with Reverend Harry Holbert officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Wyatt. Military Rites will be accorded in the funeral home immediately following the service by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
