Dolan Dwight Toothman, age 91 of Plum Run, WV passed peacefully at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg on Saturday, July 26, 2025 following a brief stay at this fine facility. He was born on Plum Run, February 8, 1934 to the late Clovis C. Toothman and Docia Hamilton Toothman Jones. Dolan was also preceded in death by his step-father Albert F. Jones and his brother Douglas M. Jones.
Dolan is survived by two children, Mistie and Tom Myers of Grays Run, Farmington, and Rod and Patti Toothman of Buckhannon, three grandchildren, Tyler and Shannon Toothman of Plum Run, Seneca and Steve Haught of Plum Run, and Maverick and Kristy Myers of Shinnston, and six great-grandchildren that always put a smile on his face, Bennett Toothman, Titan, Kolt and Malia Myers, and Annalynn and Owen Haught. Dolan is also survived by his siblings, Dennis and Beverly Jones, Donna Fluharty and sister-in-law Majorie Stevens all of Plum Run, and Debbie Jones of Fairview, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dolan was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann Stevens Toothman who passed on November 19, 2020.
Dolan graduated from Farmington High School in 1953. He worked the railroad before enlisting into the Army in 1955 for two years, then returning home to his lifetime career at Tri-City Welding Supply Company in Fairmont, where he pumped Acetylene and Oxygen tanks, made deliveries all around the state and also did some management. He retired from here in the late 1990s.
Dolan has always been looked up to by many for his incredible work ethic. Up until his wife’s illness and passing five years ago, they together kept at least six of their twelve acres manicured as well or better than an golf course around, with approximately two of those acres being steep hillside that he could barely stand upright on to weed-eat down to the dirt twice a summer. Of course all of Plum Run knew how well he loves to mow his grass “anytime he could” the last few years with his John Deere lawn tractor. A huge THANK YOU goes out to so many in the community for their continuous watch out and several times lending a helping hand along the way! They also raised some very productive gardens, always canning their bountiful harvest and had many of the most impressive, weed free, flower gardens around.
One of Dolan’s most proud accomplishments was to have been part of the original woodcutter crew to help build Roy Michael field and Woodcutters Stadium at North Marion High School!
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm with Tom Myers officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Marion County Veterans Council at the conclusion of the funeral services in the funeral home parking lot. Interment will follow at the Myers Cemetery on Plum Run.

It is indeed a sad thing that my circle of West Virginia family continues to grow smaller. On my trips to the Hamilton farm on Plum Run, Dolan and I would catch up. A man that loved his country, loved his family and served his community with character and honor. He will be missed. With sadness. Godsprrd your 2nd cousin Bruce.
Dolan will be missed!! He and his wife were amazing neighbors. They were always available if we needed help. Dolan was witty, caring, kind, and handsome. Seeing him on his swing inspired me that it was going to be a great day. That empty swing makes me appreciate his presence. Wonderful human being.
