Don J. Ice, 83 of Mannington, WV passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born April 11, 1927 at Mannington, WV a son of the late Orda and Mary Hazel Hinerman Ice.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby Lucille Hawley Ice; two sons, Robert Alan Ice and wife Helen Ruth of Salt Lick, Mannington, WV and David “Pete” Ice of Ocala, FL; a daughter, Donna Hall and husband David of Morgantown, WV; four grandchildren, Joshua D. Ice of Charlotte, NC, Joselyn Nicole Ice and husband Scott Melena of Wheeling, WV, Travis Wilson of Morgantown, WV and Blake Ice of Ocala, FL; two great-grandchildren, Avalen Grace Melena and Sebastien Meteo Melena.
Mr. Ice was a 1944 graduate of Mannington High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy, Cee Bees Division during World War II. He survived the battle of Okinawa. He was employed by the Huey & Jones Funeral Home in 1944 and the Huey Funeral Home from 1946-1950. He was employed by J & L Steel Corporation from 1950-1952 and the A & P Tea Company from 1952 until its closing in 1979. He also was employed by the Garden Fresh Market and Super Dollar Stores in Mannington. Mr. Ice traveled extensively throughout the United States during his retirement. He enjoyed his time working with the Cub Scouts and the Pinewood Derby. He was a Methodist by Faith.
At the request of Mr. Ice services will be private and at the convenience at the family. Arrangements by Masters Funeral Home in Mannington.
