Donald F. “Jack” Raber, 77 of Flaggy Meadow, Mannington, WV passed away, Sunday, April 24, 2011 at his residence. He was born August 2, 1933 at Metz, WV a son of the late Arlie and Doris Wilson Raber.
He is survived by one daughter, Melinda Daniels and husband Ed of Mannington and one son, Todd Raber and wife Veronica of Fairmont; two grandsons, Heath Earl Daniels and Eric Hunter Daniels, both of Mannington; two brothers, Craig Raber and wife Sue of Mannington and Arlie Raber Jr. and wife Barb of Idaho; one sister, Eleanor Crook and husband Lawrence of Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife Marquetta Sue Raber who passed away June 15, 2001. They were married on July 27, 1963 in Wheeling, WV. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Glen Raber and Dwight Raber; 2 sisters, Neva Wolen and Beulah Miller.
Jack was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean War Conflict. He retired from Peabody Coal Company in Grantown in 1985 as a coalminer. He was a member of the UMWA District 31. He was a member of the Mannington Moose Lodge and a former governor of the Moose Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Mannington. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Metz. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.
The family would like the express a special Thank You to Amedisys Hospice in Anmore for all their help and special care given to their father during his illness. The family would also like to acknowledge the love and care that his grandsons, Heath and Eric, showed him during their grandfather’s illness.
Family and friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 4-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Coon officiating. Burial will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
