Doris Villers

On Saturday, December 22, 2018, Doris Rose (Thomas) Villers finished her Christian race of which she began nearly 75 years ago. Doris was born June 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Herbert Cline and Lulah Mandela Maywood (Rowand) Thomas in Clayville, PA. At an early age she and her family located to Metz, WV where she later met and married the love of her life, Grover Thomas “Tom” Villers. On June 14, 2017 they celebrated their 70th anniversary. Tom went to his Heavenly reward on June 9, 2018 and was laid to rest on their 71st anniversary.

To their union was born two children, Grover Thomas Villers, Jr. (who lived only six hours) and Rose Marie (Villers) Snyder. In 1979, Rose married Victor Arden Snyder and to their union was born one son, Zachary Arden Snyder (Tom and Doris’ pride and joy). Doris also has a granddaughter-in-law, Kari, and two great-grandsons, Davis and Alec, who loved their “Oma” dearly. Zachary and his family reside in Mobile, AL where he pastors West Mobile Zion Assembly Church of God.

Doris is survived by her daughter Rose (Victor) of Metz, grandson Zachary Snyder (Kari) and great-grandsons Davis and Alec, all of Mobile, AL. Also surviving are sister-in-law Joyce F. Thomas of Farmington, WV, sister-in-law, Erma (James) Prather of Galax, VA, brother-in-law James (Peggy) Villers of Washington, PA. She also leaves several nieces and nephews behind (all of which she loved dearly), a great-nephew, Eli Thomas Shenal of Mannington, WV that she and Tom loved, a special “adopted grandson” Timothy White of Bolivar, OH, an “adopted son” Bill Coon of Carolina, WV, a special friend Stella Lovett of Metz, WV, and her neighbors (and close family friends) the Tennant’s.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, her sisters Christine (Lemley), Agnes (Clark), Margaret (Morris), and brother Herbert Cline “Sonny” Thomas Jr.

Doris was a lifelong homemaker, a responsibility that she possessed great pride and feeling of accomplishment in. Doris enjoyed being hospitable to her many houseguests, feeding them with her tasty food and never ending pot of coffee and sweet tea— and on most days there were many friends and family visiting. She loved playing Chinese checkers, “Mexican” dominoes with her friends and her grandson, and the piano and mandolin with her husband who was a fantastic musician.

Doris was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy from 1940 until 2005 and then reaffirmed her covenant with Zion Assembly Church of God. During her active years in the church she served as Clerk and Treasure, Sunday School Teacher, Gleaner (children) leader, Women’s Missionary Band leader, Victory Leaders Band leader, Church of Prophecy Markers Association leader, State Overseer Pay Association leader, and many other places of ministry and auxiliary work.

Doris will be greatly missed by her loved ones. She leaves behind a great example of holiness living, one of which any Christian lady could emulate, since she dedicated herself to walking according to God’s Word. She personified a Godly woman and always provided a smile or word of encouragement to shine the light of Jesus Christ.

A Special Thanks to Marion County Senior Center, Tygart Center, and Amedysis Hospice for their unwavering support and care.

The love I have had for this woman goes way back when I was a toddler over 39yrs ago. I knew when I seen her I felt at peace and when I was at her house I felt at home. She has been a great role model to me as parent, grandparent and as a godly woman. I knew if she pinched me she liked me when I seen her. She will be missed but most of all she will finally be home.
