Jack Lewis Higgins, age 95 of Mannington, WV passed away on his birthday on Saturday, February 14, 2021 at River Oaks Nursing Home in Bridgeport. He was born February 14, 1926 in Pricetown, WV, a son of the late Howard Higgins and Minnie Price Higgins. He was the last surviving member of his 10 siblings.

He is survived by three children, Cheryle (Larry) Smith of Mannington, Roger (Carol) Higgins of Mannington, and Cheri (Duane) Martin of Valley Furnace, WV; 5 grandchildren, Tracy (Roger) Martin of Mannington, Jeremy Smith of Mannington, Jayson (Trish) Higgins of Ohio, Hovie Nestor of North Carolina, and Heath (Sonja) Nestor of South Carolina; 6 step-children, Mike Zickafoose of Bristol, TN, David (Beatrice) Zickafoose of Rosamond, CA, Doug (Carol) Zickafoose of Oak Hill, WV, Jill Sisk and fiancée Tom of Danese, WV, Tim (Nancy) Zickafoose of Fairmont, and Greg Zickafoose of Beckley, WV; three great-grandchildren, Ashlee Higgins Schneider of Bruceton Mills, WV, Delaney Higgins of OH, and Addison Martin of Mannington; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Raelynn Schneider.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife Tot Higgins who died November 22, 2019; and two children, Jack “Butch” Higgins and Sally Nestor.

After attending Mannington High School, Jack went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII as a Military Police and guarded General Patton and his horse during his time in Europe. He later attended Trade School after the war in Wheeling. He was an iron worker, furnace and air conditioner contractor. He raced stock cars in Ohio and was an avid Indian and Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast.

There will be no services at the funeral home. Committal services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2021 beginning at 12:00pm at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV where Full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Marion County Veterans Council. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV has been placed in care of the final arrangements.
