James Carl Shuman, 84, of Mannington, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home. He was born November 11, 1937 at Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Harry Carl and Margarita Gail Furbee Shuman.
Jim is survived by his wife of 20+ years, Alice Marie Shuman. Also surviving are his children, daughter Dr. Terry Wharton Ridge and husband James of AL and their three children Amanda Lynn (Joe)Toledo of Swedesboro, NJ, Dustin Lee Hamel of Savannah, GA, and Ethan Dakota Ridge of AL, and Terry’s grandchildren and Jim’s great-grandchildren Tessa Oliver, Austin Ridge, Dakotah Ridge and Riley De Marco, daughter Patricia (Patty) A. Boros and husband David Michael of Grafton, WV and her two children, Aubrey Michelle (Chad) Conley of Morgantown, WV and Alyssa Jayne Baker of Bridgeport, WV and her grandchildren and Jim’s great-grandchildren, Corbin Mathis Conley, Alivia Grace Conley and Maxwell James Griffin, a son who preceded him in death, Dr. Michael Ray Shuman who has a daughter, Jim's granddaughter Shelby Rae Shuman. Also surviving are his step-children, Gina Hayes Prahl of Pittsburgh, PA and her children, Amanda, Shayna and Shawna Prahl, Jeff Hayes and his wife Megan of Mannington, WV and his four children, Tyler , Bryson, Rayden and Laney. Laney held a special place in her Grandpa’s heart as the youngest grandchild. She was his companion and helper from birth, the two were inseparable, Lana Hayes Swearengen and husband Rusty of Mt. Morris, PA and her children, Colby and Dillon Kincell. Jim has a brother, Homer Earl Shuman of MS, two sisters, Carolyn Sue Higgins of Alabaster, AL and Dottie Lou Duncan of Hundred, WV. Jim was blessed with many nieces and nephews across many states.
In addition to his parents and his son, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Efaw Shuman and a brother Larry Marvin Shuman.
Family and friends will be received at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 11:00 am with Pastor Wayne Efaw officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery where full Military Rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council and The United State Navy.
