James Leonard Stewart, Jr. 86, of Hough Addition, Mannington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug 21, 2018 after a long struggle with leukemia. He was born Nov. 1, 1931 at Rachel, WV, a son of the late James Leonard and Ruby Olive Fluharty Stewart, Sr.
He is survived by his wife and beloved partner of 64 years, Marquetta “Ketty” Romane Fluharty Stewart, one son: Dr. Kevin (Susan) Stewart, of Altimont, NY; two grandsons: Jeremy Alexander Stewart of Wooster, Mass and Tyler Patrick Stewart, of Austin TX; a niece, Debra (A. J.) Romino , of Fairmont; a nephew: Joseph Vessechia, Jr. of Fairmont; a sister-in-law: Charlotte Glover of Mannington and many nieces and nephews from Marquetta’s family
Jim was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Juanita and Joseph Vessechia and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Jim was a graduate of Mannington High School Class of 1949. He was a US Air Force veteran, and served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Fairmont State College, with a Bachelor in Science Degree in Engineering. He spent his career working at Westinghouse Electric (Phillips) for 41 years, retiring as a general foreman, in 1989.
For over 60 years, he was an active congregant of the First United Methodist Church in Mannington. Jim served on numerous committees over the years for the City of Mannington, involved in all aspects of redevelopment efforts.
In his spare time, Jim was an avid West Virginia Mountaineer Football fan, and enjoyed hunting with friends and family.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington on Friday, Aug. 24 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 11:00 am with Rev. David Yanero and Rev. Jerry Bush officiating. Interment will be at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.

I (Russell) worked with Jim at Westinghouse in the late 60's. He was such a joy to be around, laughing and smiling. So sorry to hear of his
passing. I would see him occasionally out and about at local restuarants. He will be missed.
