Jesse Franklin “Toad” Gump, 90 of Joes Run, Mannington, WV, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his residence. He was born January 11, 1923 in Mannington, WV, a son of the late Albert Gump and Aliza Dixon Gump.
He is survived by four children, James Gump and wife Peggy of Graff, Missouri, Edward Gump and wife Doris of Mannington, Alice Gump of Mannington, and Ronald Gump and wife Tina of Mannington; a step-son, Edward Fetty of Joetown; 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one half-sister, Ethel Varner of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife Martha Ellen Villers Gump who died in 2006; one great-grandson; 4 sisters, Ellen, Dory, Rosalee and Maxine; 3 brothers, Nick, Bob and J.R.; and one niece and one nephew.
Jesse was a Heavy Equipment Operator for the West Virginia Dept. of Highways with 32 years of service. He was a “jack of all trades”, and he enjoyed “widdling”.
Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 2:30-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Whetstone Cemetery.
