John E. Brock, 84, of Mannington, WV, passed away Thursday evening, November 7, 2013 at the Salem Center, Salem, WV with his family by his side, including his granddaughter, Sami. He was born September 9, 1929 in Marion Co., WV, son of the late Burnzey Ross and Mary Ann Woods Brock.
John is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Arlene Brock with whom he was married to for 62 years, his son, Randy and Diane Brock of Inwood, WV, and his daughters, Jill and Scott Yoak of Parkersburg, WV and Jan Triplett and Alan Fluharty of Mannington, WV. John is also survived one sister, Pauline Parrish of Idamay, WV, several nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren, Jodi, Todd, Sami, Sara and Cassie, great-grandchildren, Ava, Sidney, Quinn, Jayden, Justin, Desmond and Zayde, who is due anytime now.
John was a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the A.F & A.M Lodge #31 in Mannington, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star #6. He was also a member of the Scottish Rites. John was a member of the UMWA for 63 years, having retired from Consol with 35 years of service. He was a member of the No. 9 Rescue Team and was last surviving member.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a loving grandson, Chad, 3 sisters, Ola, Ruth and Eva, and 2 brothers, Delbert and Ralph. John is also survived by his german shepherd, who is now in the care of Doug Wolfe. John was an avid bird hunter, having trained many bird dogs.
Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 2 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 11, 2013 in the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
