
Laura Ruth Fortney, age 77 of Mannington, WV passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at her residence. She was born March 13, 1948 in Metz, WV a daughter of the late Wardia Beryl and Marguerite Calhoun Tennant Carpenter.
She is survived by her son Charles Dewayne Fortney of Fairview, her daughter Regina Fortney Yoho of Douglasville, GA, and her three grandchildren, Derek Fortney, Taylor Ashcraft, and Brooks Yoho. Ruth is also survived by three brothers, Ronald, Ward and Russ Carpenter, her sister Lelia Splant, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband George Edward Fortney who died February 19, 2022, 8 brothers, Jim, Frank, Robert, Gene, Charlie, Donald, Gary and Wayne Carpenter, and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Carpenter and Louise Powell.
Ruth graduated from Mannington High School and loved NASCAR, her cats as well as all the animals she fed, WVU Mountaineers as well as cheering for Alabama. She was a former clerk at Mannington Shop-n-Save/Price Cutters. The family would like to extend a big Thank You to all the employees she worked with as well as a special Thank You to Tammy Powell, Terry Yoho, her uncle Ronald, and Eddie Glover for all of their help.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm as well as Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 9-11:00am. A graveside service will immediately follow visitation at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery beginning at 11:30am.
