To all Aunt Maxine's family and extended family:

I always wished I could have spent more time with you all growing up but the memories I do have are sweet ones. Karen and I hope to see at least some of you soon. My children still talk about the reunion back in the 80s because they had so much fun.

Everyone was always welcome at Aunt Maxine and Uncle Ernie's. My fondest thoughts are with you all now and I love you.

You cousin,
Madge Raye Murphy

Aunt Maxine was the sister to my Great-Grandfather, Robert McBee.

I remember Aunt Maxine and Uncle Ernie coming to visit us in Virginia back in the 80's. She would sit on the floor and play games with us like Sorry! I also remember staying at her house in the summers when we would go to West Virginia for family reunions. Aunt Max had a way with kids. She made us feel special and to me she almost felt like a kid herself. I also remember listening to the stories that my grandmother Mary Norma Mayhall and my great-aunt Garnett Ashmore use to tell about the 3 of them and their adventures back in WVa. One of the stories I recall was that Max and Mary Norma were painting at Mary Norma's house and they got into a paint fight and had splattered paint all over each other. Awhile later, when they still had the paint all on them, my grandfather Temple Mayhall came to call upon Mary Norma (they weren't married yet) and she had to answer the door with paint all over her face, hair and clothes. She said she was so embarrassed and Maxine was behind her just laughing.

It has been many years since I saw Aunt Maxine, but she will always have a special place in my heart. I was so sad to hear of her passing. Her entire family is in my prayers. She was a very special woman who made an impact on a lot of people and she will be dearly missed.

My deepest condolences to the family of Aunt Maxine. I will always remember Aunt Maxine's pepperoni rolls and the time we went to visit her in Florida and had pompano fish. Yes, I love to eat and Aunt Maxine always fixed something delicious to eat when we visited at her house. The McBee's were a large family, and it was a lot of fun when we got together. Aunt Maxine always made you feel at home and part of her immediate family. Even though I will be unable to attend her funeral, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

With love,

Karen K. Hilton
