Michelle "Shelly" Poston

Shelly Poston

Michelle “Shelly” Poston, daughter of the late Elzie and Mary Isabelle Poston, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at her residence. She was a Downs Syndrome child. She was 51 years old.

Early years found Shelly growing up in her hometown of Grafton where she attended school, church, and participated in the Taylor County Special Olympics. She enjoyed family moments and one special memory is of Shelly and Grandma McKinney sitting in the old porch swing singing the hymns. After mom died, and a short time later her brother Junior (who had helped take care of her) died, Shelly came to Mannington to live with her sister, Donna Zemonick. Mannington became her home. Shelly became a member of the Plum Run United Methodist Church where she took part in different church activities, loved to sing, enjoyed so much Jim Cummings children’s sermons, and especially loved prayer time with Pastor David Jones. Shelly loved her church family very much. While her sister worked, Shelly would spend daytime hours with Norma and Bill Fleeman who became like family to her. She always loved God, family and her friends.

Shelly is also survived by a brother, Marvin Poston of Grafton; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorene and Bill McCartney of Thornton; a sister, Marlene Poston of Clarksburg; a sister, Donna Zemonick of Mannington; a nephew and niece (who were more like brother and sister since they all grew up together) Gary Zemonick and Donna (Scott) King and their families; the Zemonick family who welcomed Shelly into their hearts all those years ago, being Mike Zemonick and family, John Zemonick and family, and Robert Zemonick and family. She is also survived by so many nieces and nephews and family and friends. She so loved everyone.

Shelly was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Paul Poston; a brother, Elzie Poston, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Gary Zemonick Sr. (who helped take care of her).

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Apirl 24th at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington from 4-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, April 25th in the funeral home with Pastor David Jones officiating. After the service, Shelly will be taken to Grafton for burial beside her mother at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com

Dearest Donna,
May God hold you tight as you grieve.
You were the best sister a girl could ever ask for.
While it is so hard for those of us left behind, we can be sure that there was an amazing party in heaven last Friday :)
I can just hear Shelly singing 'Jesus Loves Me' and seeing Jesus smile as He holds her close and says, 'Yes I do Shelly, Welcome home.....
Love and prayers for you and your family Donna.
