Olive Marie Utt

Olive Marie Utt, age 93 of Flat Run, Mannington, West Virginia passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at Wishing Well Assisted Living in Fairmont. She was born August 6, 1930 in Deep Valley, Mannington, WV the daughter of the late Ira Utt and Anna Dorsa Anderson Utt.

She is survived by 4 nephews and one niece, Harold and Donna Utt of Leland, NC, Gary and Margery Utt of Englewood, OH, Judy Williams of Frederick, MD, Edwin and Robbin Utt of Niceville, FL, and Carl and Melinda Utt of Ellicott City, MD, and many, many friends from the community!

In addition to her parents, Olive Marie was preceded in death by her three brothers, Garland (Josephine) Utt, Orval (Thelma) Utt, and Charles Utt.

Olive Marie attended one of the last “one-room” schools in the area, Llwellyn Elementary School and graduated from Mannington High School Class of 1947. After graduating, she started working at Jones Funeral Home and then Masters Funeral Home from its opening to her retirement in 1995.

Olive Marie was a faithful member of Union Valley Baptist Church and was involved in several community activities including the West Augusta Historical Society & Round Barn, the Mannington Food Pantry and the Mannington District Fair. One of her hobbies she enjoyed working on was Genealogy for her family and many others down through years. She also enjoyed peach hunting and distribution, and attending shows and plays with her friends.

Olive Marie spent her entire life on the “home” farm on Flat Run Road. She spent the first half of her adult life caring for her father, mother and youngest brother. She enjoyed collecting antique furniture. Olive Marie always had good stories to tell about the past or present and loved to share funny stories from the local newspaper. She was a born caregiver who even after taking care of her family, continued to take care of other family members, neighbors, and friends. She was very close to her brothers and sisters in law and adored her niece and four nephews.

Her mantra was “I prefer to do for others rather than needing others to do for me" and she lived that almost until the very end!

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Wishing Well Assisted living in Fairmont for their care and kindness.

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 2-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 beginning at 11:00am with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Interment will follow at the Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Olive Marie’s memory to The Mannington Food Pantry, 501 E. Main St., Mannington, WV 26582.

Folks,

I very much enjoy reading the comments. OM will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful lady. We'll meet again someday in the throne room. Her personal mantra was true. She lived each day trying to emulate Jesus. We often talked about our ancestors. Being in the presence of the saints and kings will make OM very happy. OM understood the wide arch of our family history, and her place within it!

We live in western Florida, and cannot attend the funeral due to personal commitments. From my view, a Valentine's Day funeral is very fitting for OM. Please put aside all sadness. Make the day a true celebration of OM's life. I know she's definitely celebrating her victory.

On behalf of the West Virginia Baptist Convention, I would offer my condolences and prayers to the family. Olive Marie faithfully served her Lord, her family, her church, and her community. I am grateful to have known her, if only for a short time.

Thoughts and Prayers for the Utt family. We met Olive at the family dinners they had many years ago in Ohio. My dad was a cousin to Thelma Utt. We were so glad that we were invited to the dinners.
