Pastor William Robert “Bill” Coon, Jr., age 79 of Carolina, West Virginia passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Veterans Medical Center in Clarksburg. He was born July 16, 1946 in Cedar Grove, West Virginia.
He is survived by his wife Aurora Martinez Coon of Carolina, his two grandchildren, Sierra Martinez and her companion Drew Van Norman, and Brycen Curtis, and his two great-grandchildren, Jetson Carl Griffith and Kevin Michael Van Norman. Bill was also survived by his sister Mary Jane Summer and companion David Delaney of Vienna, WV, and his nephew William (Julia) Summers of Williamsburg, WV.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son Michael Martinez.
Bill accomplished a lot in his life. He was a graduate of Glenville State College and a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. Bill devoted a lot of his life to ministry. He served as an evangelist in New Mexico, West Virginia, and Missouri and as a fellowship leader for the Church of God in Bambers, Germany. He pastored at the Church of God of Prophecy in Hubbs, New Mexico; Kuhns Run, Culloden, and Clarksburg, West Virginia. He later retired after 22 years of pastoring with First Century of Metz, West Virginia.
In addition to his ministry, Bill served as a chaplain for the Mannington Fire Department. He also enjoyed trains, especially model trains, and photography.
Family and friends may call to First Century Church in Metz, WV where visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 beginning at 10:30am with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00am officiated by Pastor JJ Davis. Inurnment with Full Military Honors at West Virginia National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mannington Fire Department. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV has been placed in care of the final arrangements.
