Patricia “Patty” Toothman

Patricia Ann Lowther Toothman, 78, of Mannington, West Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family and friends, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 10, 2026. She was born on June 2, 1947, in Marion County, West Virginia, to Dannia and Arlena (Amos) Lowther, who preceded her in death.

Patricia married the love of her life, Edward “Cheesy” Ray Toothman, on November 20, 1974. She is survived by her son, Richard (Kelly) Lowther of Gloucester, Virginia; her daughter, Mellissa Toothman of Mannington, with whom she made her home; four grandsons, Jackson, Garrison, Carson, and Bryson Lowther; three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ermine Lowther of Fairmont.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her brother, William Lowther, and her infant son, Edward Toothman Jr.

Patricia carried a kind and caring spirit throughout her life. She found joy in life’s simple treasures: embroidery, Dunkin’ coffee runs, sitting peacefully on her front porch watching the world go by, and admiring the hummingbirds that visited so often. Her home was always a place of comfort, conversation, and warmth.

Patricia dearly loved her faithful dog, Daisy, and her two cats, Boogie and Tiddle, who brought her endless companionship and happiness. She treasured her friends deeply and held close all those who watched over and cared for her throughout the years.

Known affectionately as “Patty,” “Crabby Patty,” and “Momma Toothman,” she leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, love, and the quiet kindness she shared so freely with others. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her family and friends are deeply grateful for the wonderful doctors, nurses, staff, and caregivers who cared for her in the MICU with such kindness, humor, and love during her final days.

In honoring Patricia’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. There will be no in-person services at this time, but a small, intimate memorial gathering celebrating her life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made in her name to the Marion County Humane Society, 2731 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554.
