Rev. Robert L. Green, age 89, of Fairmont, WV died peacefully Dec. 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Green was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio with his parents Lawrence and Janice Green. He finished high school at Owosso Bible School and then completed a ministry degree at Owosso Bible College in Owosso, MI. Here he met the love of his life on a blind date, Anita (Bowman) Green, and they were married in the Bible College Church, Owosso Wesleyan.
Bob and Anita shared more than four decades of ministry together. They began by pastoring in Pilgrim Holiness Churches in Mississippi and Virginia. As they moved to the Church of the Nazarene they continued ministry together in WV pastoring in the towns of Man, Mannington, Fairmont, and Wellsburg.
Known as a “calling pastor”, Pastor Green spent countless hours visiting his people in their homes and in the hospitals. Actively involved in each community where he served, he ministered to community leaders as well. He was a key servant helper to his community in the Buffalo Creek Flood in Logan County, WV in 1972 by helping families identify the victims and by opening up the Man Church of the Nazarene as a clothing bank for survivors who had lost everything.
Pastor Green loved to tell stories of his 1950’s hitchhiking days between Toledo and Owosso, many stories of door-to-door Electrolux vacuum cleaner sales, and stories of church building projects from Mississippi to West Virginia. He was actively involved in the Summersville, WV Church Camp, from work days to worship services.
He will be remembered well by his loving wife, Anita Green and his sons, Mark (Marcia) Green, Jonathan (Angel) Green. He leaves a legacy of faith for his grandchildren Hillary (Ian) Cole, Lauren (Edison) Rinen, Caleb Green and Isaac Green; and his great-grandchildren Elijah and Josie.
Per Rev. Green’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Burial will be in the Mannington cemetery near the site of the old Mannington Church of the Nazarene where he pastored. Simply one of the best. An old-school Christian example that lived his faith on a daily basis. He will be missed!!!! I can picture the reunion that’s going on

I will always remember Uncle Bob for his laughter! He was so very energetic! He couldn't sit still for long. Uncle Bob had a sweet smile (just like his sister Shirley...who happens to be my mom. Heaven is getting sweeter all the time. He will be missed!

My thoughts and my heart are with you at this transitional time.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad sounds like a wonderful man of God & a great Dad. Prayers of comfort & love for you all.
So sorry for your loss here on earth, however, I can't help but rejoice that Pastor Bob is now pain-free and at the feet of Jesus. I accepted Jesus as my Savior following one of his messages in the 70's. I am so grateful for the gift of his life and how he shared it with me and my family. Each of you will be in my prayers for Comfort and Peace as you go through these days of grieving.
Prayers out to the Family. Glad I was able to see Uncle Bob, one last time this past Summer.
So very sorry to hear of Rev. Green's passing. He was not only a wonderful caring person, but a great minister. He spread the love of God and Jesus in his everyday life, as he visited with everyone in his daily life, whether it was at the post office, store, bank, ball game, church or whereever. Remember year ago, sitting with Robert at ball games and feeling better for the visit, whether our team won or loss. Rev. Greene will be missed by so very many. Our thoughts and prayers are the family.
I am forever grateful for Pappy and how he lived and loved our family so well. He showed our family what it meant to love God by serving other people. He did this for years, quietly and humbly. I can only imagine the joyous welcome and "well done" he received in Heaven. I'll miss hearing him laugh as he shares stories about his work and ministry days. I'll miss eating home-made popcorn with him in the evenings or doing dishes with him at the kitchen sink. I love you, Pappy.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad time.
Reverend and Mrs Green will always have a special place in my heart - from the times that i went to church with my aunt and uncle and from the time he performed my mom and dads wedding ceremony in 1983 in the new Nazarene church fellowship hall.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Rev. Green was such a loving, generous, kind man. He will be greatly missed. May God comfort you and give you peace, during this most difficult time. Our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy.
