Robert Newton Amos

Robert Newton Amos, 82 of Mannington, WV passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Fairmont General Hospital.  He was born September 11, 1927 at Burnsville, WV a son of the late Frank and Eula Bush Amos.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Evelyn Golden Amos, six children, Robert Amos Jr. and wife Barbara of Charleston, WV, Paul Frank Amos and wife Brenda Lee of Metz, WV, Phyllis June Zirkle and husband Cal of Coalton, WV, Mary Amos Robertson and husband Scott of Matlacha, Florida, Ann Grace Martin and husband Billy of Fairmont, WV and Mark Russell Amos of Myrtle Beach, SC;  ten grandchildren, Robert Amos III, Autumn Grace Amos, William Riley Amos, Laura Johnson, Rebecca Geohagen, Emma Johnson, Grace Johnson, Joshua Paul Amos, Aaron Andrew Amos and Rachel Diane Martin;  two sisters, Rose Barnett of Elkins and Sue Keener of Fairmont and a son-in-law, William Johnson III of Lakeland, FL.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Sue Johnson, two brothers, Hugh Amos and Frank Amos Jr., and two sisters, June Tucker and Eva Eschenburg.

Mr. Amos was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He graduated from East Fairmont High School and Fairmont State College.  He earned his masters degree at West Virginia University.  Mr. Amos was a school teacher having taught at Mannington High School and Mannington Middle School.  He retired in 1992 after 30 years of employment with Marion County Schools.  He was a member of the First United Methodist in Mannington.  He was a Sunday School Teacher for the Methodist Church.  Mr. Amos was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 2-9 P.M.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
