Ronald Eugene Fluharty Jr., 70, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic boating accident on June 11, 2025, while fishing on the river—a place that brought him peace, joy, and the chance to create lasting memories with those he loved most.
Born November 19, 1954, Ronald was the son of the late Ronald Eugene Fluharty Sr. and Barbara Ann Fluharty. He was a proud graduate of Mannington High School and worked for many years as a skilled electrician. In retirement, he found peace in simple joys—floating down the river, casting a line with his grandsons, and watching his grandchildren grow.
He is survived by his three daughters, whom he spoke of often and with great pride, Jesseca Full and her husband, James Full, Brooke Bittinger and her husband, Lieutenant Jonathan Bittinger, U.S. Navy, and Bailiegh Britton. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren: Jude Full, Blake Byard, Charlie Bittinger, Casey Bittinger, and Annelise Britton.
He was a quiet observer with a kind heart. Whether with his daughters or his grandchildren, he found his greatest happiness simply being present—watching, listening, and cherishing the small, meaningful moments others might overlook. He was immensely proud of his children and shared stories about them to anyone who would listen.
He is also survived by his loving companion of over ten years, Joyce Lake, whose heroic attempt to save him during the accident nearly cost her life—an extraordinary act that reflected her deep love and devotion to him. Ronald is also survived by his siblings: Gary Fluharty, Alan Fluharty, Mark Fluharty, Denise Bowen, and Carol Hostuttler, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family held a private funeral service at Masters Funeral Home to honor Ronald as he would have wanted—surrounded by those who knew and loved him, in quiet reflection and deep gratitude for his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Romney, WV Emergency Services in recognition of their swift action, kindness, and compassion shown to the family during this time of loss.

To Ronnie's family & friends I'm so very sorry for our loss. Years ago I worked with Ronnie when he drove for Snider's Florist in Mannington. He would drive and I would run the flowers to houses. I haven't seen Ronnie for years; but, what I remember is his great since of humor he always had a smile, and he always asked about the Elliott's. Even though I haven't seen Ronnie for years his was a good friend! May you all find comfort through your memories, friends, family, and prayers!
