Sanson Wayne Thorne, Jr., 85, passed away November 6, 2021. He had been in declining health, but death was unexpected. He was born in Mannington, WV, June 10, 1936. He was the son of the late Sanson Wayne Thorne, Sr. and Margaret Mary Snodgrass Thorne. His wife, Joyce Elaine Russell Thorne, preceded him in death in 2015; they were married for 54 years.

He is survived by his children, Donald “Donnie” Wayne Thorne (Heidi), Margaret “Peggy” Gay Thorne-Church (David). Wayne had recently reunited with daughter, Beth Oliver (Gary). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jordan Knight (Amanda), Joshua Knight (Stacey), Christopher Knight (Angelina), Megan Griffith (Ben), and Alex Thorne; and step-grandchildren Joe Michael Kirtner, Travis Kirtner, Bryan Church, and Daniel Church. He is survived by four great grandchildren, Arlen Knight, Lincoln Wayne Knight, Graesin Knight, and Kylie Shultz. Wayne was expecting another great grandson in April 2022. Wayne is survived by his sister, Jennie Olive Thorne Moore. He is also survived by sister in law, Cheryl King (Russ) and brother in law, Roger Russell (Debbie). Wayne was preceded in death by brothers in law, Donald G. “Grubby” Russell and Dale Moore. He had many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. Wayne was an electrician by trade and was a member of IBEW Local 596 in Clarksburg, WV. One of his greatest joys was telling his “work” stories. Wayne loved his family and more than anything, loved to attend the sporting events of his grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling at Compton Lanes. Wayne had coached many sports teams throughout the years.

Visitation will be held at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St. in Mannington, WV, on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 11:00am-1:00pm. A graveside service will immediately follow at Huey-Thorne Cemetery with Pastor Starcher officiating.
