Shirley Garcia

to

Shirley Ann Garcia, 76 of Mannington, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 27, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Shirley was born April 8, 1936, in Four States, West Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late Ann Doshen Raad.  Her step-father was Nadar Raad, Sr., also of Mannington.

Shirley attended Mannington High School.  She was employed by numerous businesses, including the D&K Market, Decorator Industries, Eddie’s Shoe Town, and North American Phillips.  She took her greatest pleasure in providing home health care to her beloved community for over twenty years.  Shirley was a Catholic by faith, and was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church in Mannington.  She also was an avid poll worker for both the city of Mannington and Marion County.  Shirley loved to read, and was an excellent cook.  She also loved sitting on her porch with her cat, Jade.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, Jesse Garcia, Jr.  She is also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Jesse Garcia, Sr. and Lillian Garcia; one brother, Nadar Raad, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Nelson Hays; two sisters-in-law, Patty Garcia and Satichko Garcia; and two special aunts, Katherine Locke and Helen Fluharty.

Shirley’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. John Azar of Fairmont, who was more than a doctor to Shirley, he was a friend.  The family would also like to thank the Arbors of Fairmont and the Marion County Hospice for all of their help.

Family and Friends will be received at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2-9:00 PM.  A Catholic Mass funeral will take place on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the St. Patrick’s Church in Mannington at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at the Whetstone Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family asks that donations be made to the Mannington Relay for Life in Shirley’s name.  Together, we will find a cure for this disease.  On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com.
