Thelma “Louise” Hibbs, 87, of Flaggy Meadow Road, Mannington, WV, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born August 31, 1926 in Flaggy Meadow, WV, a daughter of the late Ellis and Reva Hamilton Hibbs.

Louise is survived by her one brother, Robert “Bob” Hibbs and wife Norma of Flaggy Meadow, Mannington; 2 sisters, Harriett Jane Kerr and husband John of Woodbridge, VA and Charlotte Ann Jones of Mannington; nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own children, John Kerr, Janice Ryan and husband Kurt, Richard Jones and wife Robin, Lance Jones, Terry Ash, Sherry Bonnette and husband John; several great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-niece.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Hibbs; a brother-in-law, Rev. Richard Jones; nephews, James Kerr and Mark Ash.

Louise was a teacher with at least 40 years experience of teaching mathematics at high schools in Buckhannon, Lumberport, Farmington, and Mannington. She was a member of the Mannington First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a Lay Leader and Deaconess. She was an original Board Member of the United Ministry and had served as treasurer. She was a member of the C.W.F. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa (International Honorary Organization of Women Educators). In her early years, she interrupted her professional career to take care of her mother and went back to work and continued to take care of her family while teaching. She loved her students and loved teaching.

Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 30, 2013 in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lynn White. I have wonderful memories of her from Mannington High School and from times visiting at the farm. She had a long life.

So sad to hear of the passing of my former teacher miss hibbs, she was my math teacher @ mannington middle school. Although strict she was a great teacher and took making us learn very serious. She was one of those teachers that I never forgot about. I also remember when I was younger going to her farm in flaggy meadow with my grandmother "pauline prunty" and buying fresh cows milk by the gallon. Allthough miss hibbs is gone the memories she left will live forever

Louise was a great lady! I have fond memories of her! She made great homemade ice cream. My family and I will miss her very much! She always had a smile for you and never complained about anything. I had Ms. Hibbs as a math teacher at Mannington, our class gave her a hard time, but she kept teaching. She was a great teacher and wonderful person.

I had her for a math teacher at the middle school I would give her a hard time. She put me by her desk , but we sure did have good memories back then with her. She will be sadly missed
