V. Joyce Higgins

V. Joyce Higgins, 72 of Hawks Nest, Mannington, WV passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown.  She was born October 18, 1939 at Drain Hill (Shinnston), WV, a daughter of the late Clarence Bates Drain and Geraldine Owens Drain.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Lee Higgins; 6 daughters, Delta Deem and husband Jr. of Stonewood, Joyce Deem and husband Russell of Mannington, Tammie Wolfe and husband Thurman of Stonewood, Mary Jo Green and husband John of Mannington, Robin Lenord and husband Fred of Flat Run, and Penny Higgins of Mannington; three grandchildren that she raised, Rachel Higgins of Joetown, Rickie Palmer of Mannington and Paul Higgins of Clarksburg; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also raised her brother, Roger “Butch” Drain and Mary Drain of Mannington; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Earlen Bates Drain, William Leroy Drain, Johnny Drain and Freddie Lee Drain; two sisters, Opal Marie Anderson and Dorothy Pauline Wright.

Mrs. Higgins was a Baptist by faith and attended Charity Baptist Church in Joetown.  Her life was raising her children.  She enjoyed crocheting, reading, shopping and going to yard sales.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

Family and Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 4-8:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in the funeral home with Pastor Alan Rosenberger officiating.  Burial will follow at the Elizabeth Mason Cemetery in Joetown.  On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com
