Victor Arden Snyder, age 71, of Metz, departed from this life on Saturday, September 14, 2019 to enter into eternal rest with the Lord. Vic was a devoted son, brother, uncle, husband, father, “Pepaw,” and friend. He was born to Arden Samual and Madalyn (Martin) Snyder on October 16, 1947. He married Rose Marie (Villers) on May 19, 1979. In 1982 their only child, Zachary Arden, was born. In 2004 their son married Kari (Webster) and to their union was born his “pride and joys” Davis Arden (2005) and Alec Thomas (2011).
Stricken with polio at age 5, enduring surgeries every summer into his teen years, Vic managed to remain active, not allowing the disease and its last effects to stop him from enjoying life as best he could. He was an avid reader and enjoyed all things history and sports (he was a subscriber to Sports Illustrated for nearly 50 years). He loved Mountaineer sports and was a football season ticket holder for thirty years. Vic also loved to travel. He, along with his wife, son, and father/mother-in-law traveled together to all 48 continental states and Canada. Included in his travels were several concerts to see his favorite group of all time— The Beach Boys!
Vic was the long-time manager of the Dairy Dream in Hundred, having been part owner for a few years early on. He also was employed at the Texaco gas station in Metz during the 1970’s, his father’s professional interior/exterior painting company, and for a short stint worked in a rug factory in northern Ohio. He loved to joke, make up silly songs, and tell some good jokes. Possibly best known for dry and witty humor, though often not trying to be funny, always seemed to end up being the life of the party. He loved all things Metz and lived in the same house he was raised in until his death.
Vic is preceded in death by his parents Arden and Madalyn, a sister Patricia Wagoner, a brother Richard Ferguson, and father/mother-in-law Tom and Doris Villers. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rose, (Metz, WV), son, Zachary, daughter-in-law, Kari, and grandsons Davis and Alec (Mobile, AL), sister Janet Laugh (Metz, WV), sister-in-law, Charlotte Ferguson (Schaumburg, IL), an adopted son, Timothy White (Boliver, OH), eight nieces and three nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Vic was a member of the Lions Club and before he became sick enjoyed his service there. He was a charter member of First Century Church of Metz and in the last few years attended Zion Assembly Church of God of Idamay with his wife.
The family wishes to give their deepest appreciation to the many friends and family who have helped with his care over the last several years while at home. A special recognition of appreciation to Amedysis Hospice, Marion County Senior Center, Essential Needs, Hometown Care, and Tygart Center.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, WV on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor JJ Davis and Pastor Bill Coon officiating. Burial will follow at the Bee-Gum Cemetery. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.mastersfuneralhomewv.com or on the funeral home facebook page.

Rose, Zac, Janet and family. My condolences on the loss of Vic. Such a great man who loved his family and God. I enjoyed his teaching Sunday School at First Century. Rose and Zac,
There are only good memories that come to mind. He was very kind and he spent many hours on his porch supporting the neighbors. I am very glad he got to travel and spend time with grandchildren, which I'm sure were the light of the world to him. Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you at this time. God Bless!
Nathan and I are so sorry for your loss. I'll be out of town this week and unable to attend his service. Rose, you and your family are in our prayers. Sincerely, Susan and Nathan Hinerman
