Wilbert Harold “Luke” Higgins, age 90 of Mannington, WV entered into rest on Monday, December 19, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 5, 1932, in Camp Run, Mannington, WV, a son of the late Robert Clarence Higgins and Lilly Belle Ernest Higgins.
He is survived by his wife Alberta June Courtwright Higgins with whom he was married to for 68 years, two sons William “Wild Bill” Higgins (Melissa Kay) of Mannington, and Daniel Wayne Higgins of Mannington, three daughters Barbara June Ice (Fred) of Mannington, Rose Marie Sokolosky of Mannington, and Sandra Kay Fluharty of Barrackville, one brother Don Higgins of Ohio, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Wilbert was preceded in death by his daughter Joyce Higgins Wright, a grandson Josh McCauley, three brothers, Robert “Bud” Higgins, Pete Higgins, and Frank Higgins, and five sisters, Freda Cunningham, Eleanor Riggs, Louis Hayhurst, and Mildred Stevens and Betty Higgins who died at birth.
Wilbert served his country in the United States Army and was a coal miner in Rachel. He enjoyed being a farmer and a timberman.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00am at Huey-Thorne Cemetery. Masters Funeral Home in Mannington has been placed in care of the final arrangements.
