Wilbert Stephen Levi “Steve” Starkey, age 66 of Buffalo/Brink Rd. Mannington, WV passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 6, 1956 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Wilbert Starkey and Pansey Mae Starkey.
Steve was survived by his wife Carol Starkey of Jacksonburg, WV, two sons, Steven Allen Starkey of Statesville, NC and Gregory Allen Smith of DeRidder, LA, and 5 grandchildren, Cameron Michael Starkey, Kaylie Mae Starkey, Cale Smith, Gregory Smith and Aubrey Smith. He is also survived by two sisters, Rosemary and Sam Snodgrass of Mannington and Kathy Dobbs of NC, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his son Stephen Starkey, one brother Ronnie Starkey, two sisters, Connie Hobson and Wilma Wilson, a niece Heather George and a nephew Ronnie David Starkey.
Steve was a United States Army Veteran having served a tour in Korea. He was a member of the Mannington Moose Lodge, the Mannington Elks Lodge and the Long Valley Church of Christ in Wileyville, WV. Steve enjoyed spending time with friends and family, time at the High Life Lounge, and riding ATVs with his buddies. Steve was a NASCAR fan enjoyed visiting the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, playing guitar and singing songs.
The family would like extend Special Thanks to Amedysis Hospice nurses and staff and Steve’s home caregivers Ruby Matheny, Brandy Starsick and neighbors Mark Snodgrass and Bill Hobson for their help as well.
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 6-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 11:00am with Evangelist Craig Matheny officiating. Interment will follow at the Hastings Cemetery where Full Military Rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the Harrison County Veterans Council.
