William Wayne Hendershot

William Wayne Hendershot, 82 of Clarksburg, WV passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Crestview Manor at Jane Lew, WV.  He was born January 29, 1928 at Myersdale, PA, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Myers Hendershot.

William is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Wright Pethtel Hendershot of Clarksburg, with whom he was married to on Dec. 29, 1973.  He is also survived by a daughter, Elaine Hendershot of Studenville, Ohio; 4 step-children, Katherine Poling and husband Kenneth of West Milford, Robert Pethtel of West Milford, Mae Pethtel of Pottstown, PA and Harry Pethtel of Ohio; one brother, Jerry Hendershot of Coventry, R.I.; a step-daughter-in-law, Wendy Pethtel of Birdsboro, PA; step grandchildren, Marilyn Coleman of Lost Creek, Stanley Poling of West Milford, Kevin Pethtel of Stowe, PA, Christine Sabold, Mary Pethtel and Tracy Pethtel, all of Pottstown, PA, Mark Pethtel of Dundee, OH and Matthew Pethtel of Pottstown, PA; 13 step great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by 2 stepchildren, Albert and Marion Pethtel; a grandson, Ray Pethtel; 2 brothers, Fred and Ronnie Hendershot and one sister, Frances Carol Hendershot.

William retired from Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel Corp. after 31 years in the heating department.  He served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1950.  He was an avid reader of westerns, especially Louie LaMour and also enjoyed reading science fiction as well.  He also did crossword puzzles, collected eagles and had a large collection of old movies.

Friends may call at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Mannington, WV on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 2-8 P.M.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at mastersfuneralhomewv.com
