She was born in McClellan (Plum Run) on November 19, 1924 to the late Lawrence Bertie Toothman and Emma Riffle Toothman. She was a graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1942. She married the late Albert Ray “Ab” Cole on January 28, 1943.
